Spring Clinic at Sunrise Stables
De Spook Your Horse!
Spring is finally here and it is time to rekindle our partnership with our
horses!
I just came back from a Spring Horse Tune Up Clinic this weekend, which gave me
the idea to do a (DE-) SPOOK clinic at Sunrise Stables. This is a
workshop filled with knowledge, fun and the opportunity to strengthen the bond
between you and your horse in a safe and supportive environment! The cost is
only $49 for the whole day and I will include a free homework plan for every
participant customized to you and your horse's needs at the end of the day.
Please RSVP ASAP, because spots are limited! :-)
And here's the scoop:
8:00 Arrival, registration, park your truck and trailer, get your horse situated
and have a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate and a bagel
8:30 Orientation and Theory
- Your responsibilities as a participant and my responsibility as a
teacher
- What to expect and what NOT to expect from your horse
- Learn to read your horse's body language
- How to distinguish: My horse WON'T... and my horse CAN'T...
- What does "Approach and Retreat" mean and how and when to do it
- How to stay safe when a horse spooks
- The difference between a horse only tolerating an object versus
truely accepting it and why it is important
- Understand your horse's fear and how to deal with it
- Understand your own frustration and learn how to deal with it
10:00 Put your Newly Learned Knowledge into Practice
- Exercises with and without the horse
- How to use your lead -ership
- How to develop rapport, trust and respect with your horse
- Learn about everybody's "personal bubble" especially those of
participating horses to stay safe
- How to draw your horse's attention back to you when it is afraid and
is acting instinctively instead of using the thinking side of his brain
12:00 Bring your own lunch and a chair, refreshments provided
1:00 PLAY AND LEARN over, under, in between and through obstacles! Here is the
opportunity to practice your newly found knowledge through a variety of objects
such as bridge, tires, plastic, tarps, trailer, barrels, noises as well as some
other, unusual objects. Let me surprise you with things you and your horse don't
encounter on a daily basis! This will include individual and group exercises. We
will play in a fun, safe and supportive environment!
4:00 Comments and Questions
- What did we learn?
- How do we go from here?
- Take home an individualized plan for future homework for you and your
horse
5:00 Good buys and departure
Please note that this is an in-hand class. Please bring a rope halter and 12ft
lead line and a training stick of your choice. In case you don't have this
equipment, please contact me and I will provide it for you at no additional
charge during the clinic.
Questions and RSVP to 719-275-2984 or respond via email. Please note that the
time schedule is approximate and will depend on the participants and their
horses.
I will offer a follow up clinic that will include a riding part in the near
future as well!
Hope to see you April 26!
And for those who won't be able to come: Please inquire about hosting this
clinic at your facility!
Yours sincerely,
